Family of murdered eThekwini manager ‘receiving support’

eThekwini Municipality says the family of an employee that was gunned down in Inanda is receiving support.

Khumbulani Khumalo was shot and killed while sitting in a municipal vehicle on Thursday.
He was a manager for Community Services in the city’s Water and Sanitation Unit.
The incident comes a week after members of the South African Municipal Workers' Union marched to Durban City Hall to raise concerns over their safety when using municipal vehicles.

Mayoral spokesperson Mluleki Mntungwa says the motive for Khumalo's killing is unknown.
"At this stage, the motive for the killing is unknown. The city has dispatched senior officials at Water and Sanitation to provide necessary support to the family.
"The City urges anyone who may have information about this unfortunate incident, to work with the police to bring the perpetrators to justice.
"Mayor Kaunda extended his heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of the slain employee."
