Family, friends of ‘hero’ medic Derrick Banks say final farewell
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
Family and friends of local paramedic Derrick Banks said their final goodbyes on Thursday.
Banks died last week due to health issues.
A motorcade in his honour passed through Westville in the morning, ending at the Red Point Church in Pinetown, where the funeral service was held.
His brother, Neville Banks, told mourners he was at peace.
"The best thing was for me to see my brother on Monday, the peace. And for me that was clarity and I was peaceful, and I was happy.

Banks' twins, Skylar and Taylor, also paid a heartfelt tribute to their father.
"Dad, having the privilege to be called your daughter will forever be my biggest blessing, and I love you more than you will ever know, Dad. You will forever make the sky so much prettier until we meet again."
“Like many others here today, I'm heartbroken that you are no longer here with us anymore. I always knew you are a hero and an amazing person to many, including myself, but this past week, seeing and hearing people's heartfelt messages and posts, all of them stated how much you did for others."
Jodi Jones, director of First Responders KZN, where Banks was a manager, told mourners her colleague had no greater passion in life than his three children.
"I want you guys to know that your dad was incredibly proud of you, and he'll always be watching over you and guiding you from above.
“Thanks, my friend, our friend. Thanks for everything. We're going to miss you terribly."
