Family distraught after Bulwer drownings
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
The family of one of the four children who drowned in the Midlands on Friday says they are struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
Ten-year-old Lumka Lukhozi had been playing on a boat with eight of his friends in the Mountain Pass Dam in the Bulwer when the vessel capsized.
Five of them managed to swim to safety and call for help.
Lumka and the three other children's bodies were recovered on Saturday after the police's search operations resumed.
His father Vuyani Lukhozi, who had been away at the time, says he was told the children left home for the nearby village and found a boat which they then took to the dam.
''It shocked us a lot even though it's not something we have any control over. The way it happened, it was a freak accident and we haven't come to terms with his death.
''At the moment, his body is still with the police who are investigating but our plans are to hold the funeral on Saturday. We'll be able to plan properly once we've received him,'' he said.
