Failed pumps cause water outages in eThekwini, Pietermaritzburg
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Water shortages in Pietermaritzburg and parts of eThekwini should have been resolved on Friday morning.
This is according to Umgeni Water.
Spokesperson Shami Harichunder says there was a problem at Midmar Dam.
"Two days ago, two of the pumps failed, which then caused water shortages in Pietermaritzburg, Howick near the parts of uMgungundlovu, and parts of eThekwini, especially the western areas of eThekwini."
Harichunder says load shedding partly contribute to the pump failures.

He says one of the pumps was repaired on Thursday night.
Affected Pietermaritzburg resident Burkhard Schlosser says it's been a frustrating couple of days without supply.
"We are really having a tough time in Pietermaritzburg, especially in the Montrose, Athlone, Wembley areas where if it's not water problems, it is electrical problems.
"We have been without power now since yesterday afternoon."
