KZN Premier, Sihle Zikalala says there's a bigger demand for quarantine facilities now - as the number of coronavirus infections in the province continues to rise.

KwaZulu-Natal has 1 353 confirmed cases - which is 15% of the total number of cases in the country.

We have reached and exceeded the 10 000 mark nationally.

Zikalala says they are trying to source temporary beds for facilities including lodges, resorts and hotels.

He says Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife is one of the places that have become an isolation site.

"The roping in of their facilities will further increase our capacity. These facilities can be made available within 48-hours on receipt of an official order."

"A number of other privately-owned facilities have been offered to the Department for activation, subject to access demand over and above the Department's internal bed capacity."
