EXPLAINER: Why flood-hit Durban's experiencing mass water shortage
Umgeni Water says some parts of Durban will continue being without water or receiving low pressure until they have evaluated the damage at the Nagle Dam.
Two major pipelines that carry raw water from the dam to Durban Heights Water Treatment Plant have burst due to mudslides.
"Sufficient water is not going to the plant for treatment."

"There's a shortage in water for treatment, so it means Umgeni Water is not able to give to eThekwini Water and Sanitation the full amount of water it requires," says spokesperson Shami Harichunder.
Harichunder says it's been challenging for teams to access the site.
"We couldn't get to our infrastructure because of damage to access roads. Umgeni Water will soon be using two helicopters to fly over its infrastructure to see that are the damages caused."

"Once this process has been completed, we will then have a full picture and in that way, it will give us an indication of two extremely important things: the cost of repairs and how long it will take to bring the infrastructure back into full functionality."
