Expert: Suspended blackouts not long term solution
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Energy expert, Hilton Trollip, says residents should not get their hopes up about the lifting of loadshedding this week.

"If anyone tells you they are looking for a short term solution it should be known this can't save us because all of Eskom's power stations are either very old of poorly built and are simply unreliable", he said.
It comes as South Africans enjoy their first loadshedding free weekend in weeks.
Eskom announced that they had managed to lift loadshedding due to a return to service of units that had suffered breakdowns over the past two weeks.
The Power utility says there's no plan to bring back load shedding this weekend, and even though they remain on shaky ground, the situation is currently manageable.
It also said the outlook for the week was positive. Trollip says this is a long term problem.
"Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter has explained it well in the press when he said he is basically riding a dead horse. Over the past 10 years those power stations were poorly managed, were hammered and they need to be replaced. That is the only solution", Trollip said.
