Ex-teachers to be 'named and shamed'
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Teachers who have been struck-off the educators roll for any reason will be named and shamed by the SA Council for Educators on its website.
The comment was made in Pretoria yesterday where the council had been briefing the media on its disciplinary cases.
The council's Themba Ndlovu said there has been an increase in the number of cases in the 2014/15 financial year compared to 2013/14.
He says this can largely be attributed to swift action by members of the public.
Ndlovu says the names of those who have been struck off the roll indefinitely or for a certain period will be published.
''This way people would be able to see who is employable and who isn't and also who can be trusted with their children and who can't be trusted. Going back to the ethics cases two critical the types of cases we have been interacting with.
''One is the question of corporal punishment and the second one has been a question of sexual misconduct by teachers against learners,'' he said.
