eThekwini's refuse collection service resumes

Refuse collection in eThekwini is up and running again after Durban Solid Waste workers downed tools for a week - over alleged mistreatment.

The strike saw collection services being disrupted in around 20 areas, including Springfield and Phoenix. 


eThekwini Municipality says it's started clearing the refuse collection backlog and met with unions to discuss a way forward. 


Xolani Dube is with the SA Municipal Workers Union. 


He says workers aren't happy with their regional manager. 


"They've accused him of a number of things which are subject to the grievous process but it's in treatment, he is conducting itself in a manner that they are not happy with."
