eThekwini Municipality has assured residents that it's in the process of cleaning various beaches following a massive storm in the province that mostly affected areas in and around Durban two weekends ago.

Newswatch has been inundated with complaints about the condition of beaches following the heavy rains.
Spokesperson Tozi Mthethwa has urged the community to assist in the clean-up process.
''We obviously would like the public to also work with us and assist. I know some members of the community do volunteer from time to time to partake in the clean-up.
"We really encourage the spirit of volunteerism and the spirit of becoming active citizens in eThekwini,'' she said.

Meanwhile, the municipality yesterday also announced the temporary closure of the uMgeni/Mangrove, Beachwood, Virginia and Glenashley beaches north of Durban following the discovery of medical waste on the shoreline.
Mthethwa says an investigation will be conducted to determine the original source of the waste.
