eThekwini says temporary settlements not allocated power supply
Updated | By Puseletso Petersen
eThekwini deputy mayor, Fawzia Peer says the electricity issues facing the Bottlebrush community near Chatsworth, south of Durban, could be a result of the settlement originally being built as a temporary option.

Peer has been speaking to Newswatch after angry community members stormed a council meeting at the Durban City Hall earlier this week - demanding answers from the municipality.
They claim they have been left without lights for 15 years.

The residents say they are forced to make illegal connections that pose a threat to their lives. Peer says settlements deemed temporary are not given services.
"If the settlement is going to removed - there won't be a need for electricity simply because it is a waste of money. We'd have to fit in cables - it's very costly," she says.
