eThekwini says tap water safe to drink
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
eThekwini Municipality has rubbished rumours circulating on social media that the city's water is contaminated and not safe to drink.
"There was information that was making rounds to the effect that our water is contaminated. We have experts working 24/7 to ensure that the water we provide to our residents is at all times, clean," he said.
The municipality's Msawakhe Mayisela says the city has been inundated with calls from concerned residents about the quality of the city's water after seeing messages going around.
One of the claims is that the water has pathogens.
But Mayisela says this is not true - and has assured residents the city's water is safe.
"The water we are providing is clean and we are not taking any chances with regards to that because it has to do with the lives of our residents. Even the water we provide with our water tankers - we seasonally ensure that water is clean," Mayisela said.
