eThekwini, Santaco to conduct site inspection at new Umhlanga rank
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
After last month's taxi blockade in Umhlanga over a lack of a ranking facility, eThekwini says a site where minibusses can operate from, has been identified.
Two weeks ago, taxi operators loading and dropping off commuters at Oceans Mall held a protest after the makeshift area they were using to park was cordoned off.
City spokesperson Gugu Sisilana says a site inspection of what could be the new rank in that vicinity has been arranged for Friday.

She says it will be led by the eThekwini Transport Authority and the South African National Taxi Council in KZN.
"To proactively address the situation, the city has tabled short and long-term remedial solutions to address the operational challenges during a joint stakeholder engagement between the city, Greater North Region Taxi Council and the Oceans Mall developer.
"The developer has extended the current operational arrangements by 10 days while the parties endeavour on finding a short-term solution."
