eThekwini residents urged to start reducing water consumption

Durban residents and businesses need to reduce their water consumption now in an effort to avoid restrictions in eThekwini.
DA EXCO member Heinz de Boer has added his voice to those dismissing reports of water shedding in the municipality.
Panic set in this week when a leaked document on water shedding did the rounds on the Internet and social media.
De Boer says water restrictors have been proposed for residential areas. He's also urging people to consider getting Jojo tanks and start harvesting rain water.

He says people must be proactive in saving water during the drought.
"That is certainly something that will have disastrous consequences for the city. We can just imagine the impact that it will have on industry, on hospitals, on clinics, on financial institutions.
"I think at this stage it really is a wake up call to everybody in Durban because if we don't [start saving] we will see that shedding schedule being implemented," he said.
Mayor James Nxumalo says an investigation into who leaked the document is underway. He says any planned restrictions will be carefully considered and proper consultations will be held with affected communities.
