eThekwini releases report on flood damage
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
An eThekwini report on last month's floods has shed more light on the extent of the devastation. It was tabled at yesterday's EXCO meeting.
According to the report - over 7300 people were affected by the floods with around 40% of them being children.
It says 1500 displaced residents are still being housed at the 12 care centres that are still operational. The death toll in eThekwini has been put at 64.
The combined cost of damages of the municipalities' different units is sitting at over R1-billion. This could rise as the City says reports of incidents are still coming in from councillors.

Officials say disaster management processes are still being reviewed to make sure the unit responds more effectively to disasters in future.
The mayor has commended all those who helped during the disaster and in its aftermath.
