eThekwini Municipality has refuted claims that alleged payment fraud at its Human Settlements unit went unreported.

The Democratic Alliance opened a case against three senior officials, including the City Manager Musa Mbhele.
The party claimed that irregular transactions to the tune of R17 million weren't reported to the police.
Last week, six officials were suspended following an investigation.

It's believed the funds were earmarked for three housing projects in various areas, including Umlazi's T-Section.
City spokesperson Lindiwe Khuzwayo says the case was opened two months ago.
"The city notes the criminal case opened by the Democratic Alliance against eThekwini Municipality City Manager, Musa Mbhele, Chief Financial Officer, Dr Sandile Mnguni and Head: Human Settlements, Lawrence Pato."
"The municipality refutes such claims that instances of fraudulent payments went unreported. The municipality can confirm that the incident was reported on 15 September 2023 at the SAPS Durban Central Station, and a case was opened."
