eThekwini to provide incentives for dilapidated buildings
Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
eThekwini Municipality says it's put several incentives in place to assist owners of dilapidated buildings.

The city recently demolished a building on Lancers Road that was operating as an illegal tavern following complaints by nearby residents.
Municipal spokesperson Lindiwe Khuzwayo says eradicating problem buildings is part of their plans for a safer city.

She says the incentives include signage opportunities, fast tracking of applications and rates and tax incentives.
"The vision is to improve public spaces and create a more pleasant environment to work in, promote safety, improve the market value of properties, attract investment, promote tourism and improve the city's rates base."
