eThekwini municipal bus fleet hit by maintenance issues
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
eThekwini Municipality has downplayed the impact a reduced municipal bus fleet is having on commuters in the city - saying they expect the backlog to be cleared before schools reopen.
The DA recently conducted an oversight inspection at the Ntuzuma Bus Depot.
It found around 100 mechanically broken down buses - that have apparently been out of operation for over a month.
The opposition party says having fewer buses in operation has affected commuters in KwaMashu, Umhlanga, La Lucia and Newlands East.

eThekwini Municipality's Mandla Nsele says there's been a maintenance backlog - as well as logistical challenges in acquiring mechanical parts.
"The delays were related to supply chain management compliance issues. However, we are happy to report that those issues have been resolved.
"Contractors are back on site - conducting maintenance work on the buses. We are confident that the delays will result in minimum inconvenience to commuters," he said.
