eThekwini ‘moving with speed’ to restore power
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
eThekwini Municipality says its electricity department is moving with speed to restore power to a large number of areas that are experiencing outages.
Parts of central, western and northern Durban are affected.
Resident Heather Parsonage of Sherwood says they've been without electricity since around midday on Thursday.
She says they've struggled to get feedback from the city. “All out food has thawed out, it is shocking. We are at our wit’s end. If they can just reach out and see, we are sitting ducks here.
“We are at the mercy of these people, you know, and we have no idea…”
Municipal spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela says the blackouts are partly due to Thursday’s extremely hot weather, which affected some infrastructure.
“We experienced a situation where, when power came back after load shedding yesterday, certain substations blew up. But still we have the challenge of cable theft, which to a certain extent also contributes to certain area being with our electricity.”
