A taxi driver was served with a traffic summons yesterday morning for obstruction.

The driver is set to have crumpled up the piece of paper before throwing it on the ground.

In the incident that was caught on camera, one metro officer is seen blocking off the minibus with his van, but the taxi driver made a U-turn and tried to drive off.

Another cop approached the vehicle firing one shot in a bid to stop the driver. But the taxi driver ran him over. He has been arrested.

In a statement the metro police department says the taxi had also damaged property.

It says it's appalled by the incident, adding that officers risk their lives daily. The law enforcement unit in the city have wished the officer a speedy recovery.

The Transport Minister says she expects a bill that seeks to regulate e-hailing services to be finalised before the end of the sixth administration.

There've been calls from taxi council, Santaco, to get amendments passed as soon as possible.

Sindisiwe Chikunga's asked for patience, saying the National Land Transport Amendment Bill is still being finalised in parliament.

"Under normal circumstances as executive you will not dictate on how parliament should do its work because that is the core function. The core mandate of parliament is to make laws and the processes they make in doing that  can never  be dictated by the executive because it would like we are interfering in the work of parliament. However, indeed  it is very true that for e-hailing the bill is in parliament."
