EAPs, as they're known, play a crucial role in determining how proposed projects or developments would impact the environment, our health and other factors.

The municipality's Msawakhe Mayisela says they've teamed up with the Board of EAPS Association of SA to launch an online register.

He says it's the first legally-based EAP register in the world.

"The is going to be a body that is going to regulate environmental assessment practitioners so that they are conforming to certain standards - to make sure that this profession is not compromised and to grow the environmental assessment profession," Manyisela said.
