eThekwini launches Easter road safety campaign
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede has sounded a warning to lawbreakers, as the Easter festivities begin.

Gumede launched the city’s Easter Road Safety Campaign in Durban central today.
The mayor says speeding and the use of cellphones while driving remain the biggest causes of road accidents.
She is also encouraging passengers to call out drivers who are driving irresponsibly.
"We want our commuters to know their rights. We are also cautioning the drivers that it is important for them not to text and drive," said Gumede.
"With the issue of speed limits, our security agencies are all out to make sure that our communities are safe. Lawbreakers must know that they don't have any room in this country," she said.

Gumede says 200 additional Metro Police officers who were employed late last year will be on the roads this long weekend helping to enforce the law.
