eThekwini in the process of removing beached whale
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
eThekwini Municipality says the massive task of removing a humpback whale carcass from Umhlanga Beach is under way.
Officials have asked members of the public to stay out of the water and not to touch the carcass.
Onlookers have been flocking to the sea shore to get a glimpse of the whale, before it's disposed of.
The 15-metre long humpback washed up on the beach on Sunday morning.
Jennifer Olbers, a marine ecologist with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, believes the whale was between 18 and 20-years-old.
She says it didn't look healthy and could've been dead for a few days.
