eThekwini to impose fines of up to R40 000
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
A new by-law could see residents coughing up between R200 and R40 000 in fines.

eThekwini Municipality's Public Nuisance by-law will take effect this Friday.
This means that any one caught urinating in public, littering, damaging property or the environment, including those who're very noisy or hang their washed clothes in a public place, will be given a fine.
eThekwini spokesperson Tozi Mthethwa says it's important to keep the city clean.
"It's all about ensuring that our city is kept in a condition that we can all enjoy. It also ensures that public behaviour by any individual does not take away the rights of any other person to equally enjoy their city," she said.
