eThekwini Municipality has dismissed as irresponsible claims by the Inkatha Freedom Party that city employees blew up the Mariannridge substation.
The IFP on Wednesday alleged in a statement that a resident saw four municipal vehicles driving towards the transformers at the corner of Intake and Demat Roads at Nsizwakazi.
This was shortly before the substation went up in flames on Tuesday night.
Durban's inner west and southern areas were plunged into darkness as other substations in Hillcrest, Waterfall and Westmead were impacted.
