Residents in the municipality's central, southern, northern and inner west areas have been left with dry taps after pumps were damaged at the Durban Heights Water Treatment Works during the floods.

eThekwini's Msawakhe Mayisela says water disruptions in the central region are due to Wiggins Water Treatment Works reducing its treatment production output after murky raw water was found.

"Teams have been working on pump repairs after the pumps were damaged by floods at the treatment works. For this reason, the distribution network was disturbed and this caused some reservoirs to run low thus affecting the water supply to consumers.

"We are optimistic the Umgeni Water is going to work tirelessly to ensure water will be restored."
