eThekwini gives Palmiet, Umgeni rivers the all clear
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
eThekwini says no more effluent is being discharged into the Palmiet River.
The municipality says the Blair Road Pump Station in Pinetown was operational again on Tuesday afternoon.
This after a blockage in a drainage line saw effluent discharged into the river.
Officials say two back-up pumps are being used with the flooded pumps being serviced and expected to be operational again soon.
Members of the public have been urged to avoid contact with the Palmiet River below Blair Road as well as the Umgeni River below the confluence with Palmiet for about 2km.
eThekwini says the natural processes and flow of the river will dilute the sewerage in the coming days.
