eThekwini: Durban July blackout was not load shedding
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
eThekwini says the unexpected power outage experienced during the Hollywoodbets Durban July event this past weekend was not load shedding.
In a statement, the city said it would assist in investigating the cause of the power dip, which led to a premature end to the glamorous horse racing event held at the Greyville Racecourse on Saturday.
Betting company Gold Circle also said it would be probing the unanticipated blackouts despite securing load shedding exemption from the city.

The electricity went out around 6 pm and returned momentarily, only to dip again 15 minutes later.
This made the jockeys uncomfortable, and they refused to finish the last three sponsored races.
