eThekwini to determine whether to relocate slum dwellers
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
An eThekwini-appointed task team is looking at whether it would be feasible to relocate families whose informal homes are situated along the city's river banks.

A mother and her 4-year-old son are still missing after being swept away while crossing a flooded river in Crossmoor, in Chatsworth at the weekend.
Mayor James Nxumalo visited other families in the Chatsworth and Umlazi areas this week who also lost loved ones during deadly storms.

Municipal spokesperson, Thulani Mbatha says the task team will look into a number of things.
''It will have to be a full assessment including looking for places elsewhere other than in the danger zone. The other important factor is that the people are deemed to be in the danger zone would obviously have to agree," he said.
