eThekwini debt relief programme valid until month end
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The clock is ticking for Durban ratepayers to take advantage of the city’s Debt Relief Programme.

eThekwini says those struggling to pay their municipal bills have until the end of the month to apply for the programme.
The benefit cushions the blow of repayments for certain residents whose debt is 90 days and older.
Council says the Debt Relief Programme applies to residential and business customers as well as non-profit organisations that are finding it hard to meet their financial obligations.

eThekwini’s encouraged them to visit their nearest Sizakala centre to get more information on how to apply.
The city says people visiting the centre, they should bring all relevant documentation, like proof of income.
It says a down payment of five percent for residential and 10 percent for business customers must be made.
An agreement will then be signed, and the accumulated interest will be written off.
The municipality’s warned NPOs not to fall behind on their payments within a period of 12 months once they have settled its debts.
