The municipality says it's all systems go for plans to refurbish coastal infrastructure, which include Circus Circus, Bike and Bean and Minitown.

The developments are part of the city's Proactive Land Release Strategy.

Fifteen new jobs will be created when Bike and Bean is transformed into the North Beach Lifestyle restaurant and will receive an R300 000 investment injection.

The popular restaurant, Circus Circus, will be renovated and changed to Durban Beach Café.

Local attraction Minitown will undergo a total transformation.

It'll incorporate more businesses, salons, kiosks and hotels while creating approximately 150 jobs with an R170 million investment by the lessee on a 30-year lease.

The city says a strategy, adopted in September 2021, allowed the municipality to be proactive in alienating surplus land, assisting the city to achieve its developmental objectives.

It’s also hopes this move will stimulate economic activity and black economic empowerment, as well as promote economic transformation in the property sector.

According to the Head of the City's Real Estate unit Thapelo Mmusinyane between May 2021 and November 2022, a total of 25 properties were advertised, and 10 awards were made to new lessees.

All 10 awards were made to companies 100% owned by historically disadvantaged individuals.
