eThekwini attending to water issues in numerous areas
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
eThekwini metro teams
were on Friday struggling to get to the site of a burst pipe in Malukazi, south
of Durban, where water has been streaming into homes.
The city says there's an access issue which has seen the water flooding homes since Tuesday.
Meanwhile, taps ran dry in Ezombokodweni, Lotus Park, Orient Hills and at Umlazi U and Y sections.
The municipality's Gugu Sisilana says technicians were chased away by locals frustrated over repair delays.
She says an informal dwelling has been built directly above the affected pipeline.
"The terrain and location of the pipe are not easily accessible. This is due to informal settlements invading vacant land and building on the water servitude where the line is located.

"This poses a challenge to the city’s team to access the line.
"The city appeals to residents not to encroach on pipeline servitudes as this is a risk to human life and properties if the pipes burst."
