Ward 15 councillor, Sifiso Ngcobo, is accused of shooting a 21-year-old man earlier this month.

He apparently also offered the victim's family money to drop the charges.

The NPA's Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says Ngcobo was granted bail of R5000 bail by the Pinetown Magistrate's Court yesterday.

"The matter was adjourned to July 5. Bail conditions are that the accused do not interfere with nor communicate with state witnesses," she said.

KZN DA leader, Zwakhele Mncwango Ngcobo says the ruling party should not be standing aside.

'We are really concerned with the fact that the ANC is not taking any action against their councillor who is accused of attempted murder. The community at the moment [look to] the councillor, we don't believe that a councillor should be allowed to perform his duties up until this case is over," he said.

ANC KZN spokesperson, Mdumiseni Ntuli says they will deal with the matter on their own terms.

"The ANC is going to be acting on the issue of comrade ward 15 who is accused of shooting someone over the past few days. The actions of the ANC are not going to be a consequence of a call by anyone," he said.
