Eskom suspends load shedding in eThekwini
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
While
the rest of the country's experiencing load shedding, residents and businesses
in eThekwini don't have to worry about it.
Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter's told the media on Wednesday morning that they've decided not to burden the flood-hit municipality with power cuts this week.
"We've made an arrangement with the municipality and we are not implementing loadshedding at this point in time. From a water supply situation, both the major points are located in municipal areas in Umgeni and Ugu. We have reached out to those municipalities and offered our assistance.”
de Ruyter says they've offered to help with spares and maintenance crews.
"Those discussions are ongoing. We are liaising with the Edtea MEC, Ravi Pillay in order to enable us to coordinate our assistance through disaster management," says de Ruyter.

Meanwhile, Umgeni Water says after heavy rainfall in and around Durban this week, most of its dams are full to capacity.
It's stressed that there's no cause for concern but says its teams are monitoring its flood warning signals.
