Eskom probing cause of Durban blackout
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Eskom officials are investigating the reason for a unit trip at its Avon substation - leading to a massive power outage in Durban yesterday afternoon.

The lights went out in areas including Umhlanga, Morningside, Overport, Newlands and Verulam.
Officials have blamed the outage on a fault at the substation.
The power was back on by 6:10pm in the evening.
Meanwhile maintenance work scheduled for the Mpumalanga substation is going ahead as planned today.
The substation will be switched off for the essential maintenance work - meaning electricity will be interrupted in areas in Mpumalanga - west of Durban - until 6pm.
