Eskom opens bids for green energy company
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
Eskom is calling on renewable energy businesses to apply for
a new tender aimed at fast-tracking the rollout of green energy solutions.
The power utility is moving ahead with the establishment of a stand-alone renewable energy company.
Eskom’s Daphne Mokwena says applicants will be evaluated on criteria that includes a proven-track record in establishing renewable energy companies.
" The objective for the new subsidiary will be to operate independently of the main Eskom entity. We are now a year into our turnaround strategy, and we are not just focusing on ending loadshedding. At the same time, we are pivoting Eskom into a sustainable and competitive company while ensuring security of supply."

Mokwena says the creation of the renewable energy business is part of Eskom’s broader focus, both locally and globally, on adopting the latest strategies to cut carbon emissions and air pollutants.
It comes as Environment Minister Dion George recently granted Eskom exemptions from Minimum Emission Standards for several coal power stations.
Applications are open until 7 May 2025.
