Eskom ends load shedding early this weekend
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Eskom has announced it's ending load shedding earlier than planned this weekend.
On Friday the utility announced it was implementing stage 2 power cuts from midday, until 11 o' clock tonight. It said it had to shut down five generating units at the Medupi Power Station in Limpopo after the province was pounded by torrential downpours caused by tropical storm Eloise.
However now Eskom says it's ended load shedding at 8 O'Clock this morning.
Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says they've successfully restored generation capacity.
"Since Friday Eskom teams returned four generational units to service at the Medupi power station as coal constraints have improved", he said.
"Another two generation units also returned to service during the same period while emergency generational reserves also recovered", Manthsantsha said.
