Eskom doing last bit of pre-winter maintenance
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
Eskom says it's conducting a final round of maintenance as we edge closer to the winter season.
The power utility's spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says the maintenance has been planned to take place during holidays and long weekends when demand is low.
"Everything is looking good at this stage, which is why we continue to take generating units offline to do maintenance on them. This is so that when winter starts officially then we know that many of the machines are ready to meet the demand," he said.
Phasiwe is urging people to remember to turn off appliances and geysers when they are not at home or when the appliances aren't in use.
Addressing MPs in Parliament earlier this month, Eskom CEO Brian Molefe said they don't expect to implement any power cuts until the end of winter.
The power utility has managed to keep the lights on for the past 7 months.
The most part of last year was characterised by daily load shedding as Eskom struggled to meet demand due to an ailing infrastructure and generating units whose maintenance was well overdue.
