The power utility launched an investigation into Oberholzer in March following allegations of corruption, dishonesty and abuse of power.

The allegations against Oberholzer were submitted by the civil organisation Corruption Watch and the South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu).

The investigation was led by an independent legal expert.

Eskom spokesperson, Sikonathi Mantshantsha says the allegations against Oberholzer were unfounded.

"The senior counsel has found no basis to the allegations of dishonesty, corruption, conflict of interest and abuse of power leveled against the COO."

"With regard to the allegations of a conflict of interest regarding Stefanutti Stocks, the senior counsel found that proper disclosure had been made of Mr Oberholzer shareholding in Stefanutti Stock."

A similar finding was made on the Black Veatch contract at Kusile.

"Considering the Black Veatch contract, the senior counsel could find no fault or other improper conduct on the part of Mr Oberholzer in so far as this transaction is concerned," says Mantshantsha.

Oberholzer was also accused of victimising a subordinate who made a submission to the commission of inquiry into state capture.

"While the investigation found that the relationship between Oberholzer and the employee who made allegation of victimisation had been characterized by tension, the senior counsel did not find that there was victimization or that any further legal processes should follow," adds Mantshantsha.
