The probe focuses specifically on allegations of racism, against Andre de Ruyter.

The former CEO of packaging group Nampak, joined Eskom in January last year, in an effort to bring stability to the embattled power producer.

de Ruyter is now being accused of helping purge black suppliers and undermining the role of black managers.

Eskom said in a statement this morning that it wants to get to the bottom of these allegations.

It's appointing an independent senior counsel to conduct the investigation.

"The Counsel will be empowered to interview any person that may be of assistance in the probe, and consider any evidence, and will then report back to the Board and make recommendations," said Eskom.

Witnesses and anyone who is able to give evidence have been asked to come forward.
