Eskom burns through 'whole year’s budget'
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Eskom has burned through R7.7 billion worth of diesel while trying to keep the lights on.
The power utility also admits that having gone through the amount to power its gas turbines in just six months, it's currently sitting in a position of being way over budget.
It says this means it will have to tap into emergency reserves soon.

During a briefing on Monday, the producer's Jan Oboerholzer told the country this a huge financial problem they are facing and it looks to get even worse with the current financial period not yet over.
"We are way over what we have estimated and forecasted what the expenditure will be. So we have spent R7.7 billion for the first six months. That was a whole year’s budget.
"So we have got R350 million left of the regional year's budget and we are only halfway through the year. It is a serious concern. We are going to overspend."
