Eskom appoints Prof Malegapuru Makgoba as interim chair
Updated | By Newswatch
Eskom has appointed Professor Malegapuru William Makgoba as interim chair of its board.
He succeeds Jabu Mabuza who resigned last week.
"Following the recent resignation of Eskom Board Chairperson Mr Jabu Mabuza, the government has appointed Professor Malegapuru William Makgoba as interim chair," the Department of Public Enterprise said.
Professor Makgoba joined the Eskom board as a non-executive director in 2018. He currently serves as the current health ombudsman and is a former vice-chancellor of the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
"His appointment as interim chair is constant with the government's commitment to good governance and the stability of the company".
"The government is going through the process of putting in place a reconfigured board in line with President Cyril Ramaphosa's announcement on Friday (Jan 10)".
"President Ramaphosa announced the Government's plans to introduce a reconfigured Eskom Board with the appropriate mix of electricity industry, engineering and corporate governance experience".
Meanwhile, although the risk remains, Eskom says no loading shedding is expected for the rest of the week.
The power utility says its maintenance of units is on schedule and that it has adequate generation capacity to meet the demand in electricity.
