Eskom board chairperson Mteto Nyati said they  have, in this current year, failed three times.

"We stood up here, having to face the nation, having to say that we're experiencing load shedding. And this is clearly something that is not acceptable."

It follows the return of rolling blackouts, after the power utility implemented stage 3 on Friday.

It's expected to last until tomorrow.

Briefing the media in Pretoria yesterday, Nyati said they're fast-tracking efforts to ensure they deliver on their mandate.

"We have made the decision that things are not going to be business as usual within Eskom going forward," said Nyati.

Meanwhile, Minister of Electricity and Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said he is disappointed about the return of load shedding but has assured South Africans that the planned power outages will come to an end.

Ramokgopa said that several problem areas have been identified.

"At the peak of this run, we were experiencing unplanned capacity loss factor of between 8,500 and 11,000 megawatts, and now we are breaching 14,000 megawatts.

"It's an illustration of something that has gone wrong, and we have begun to identify it, but it requires a much more robust and honest conversation amongst the leadership core to ensure that that which has been working we are maintaining, and that areas that require improvement we are able to improve on.

"Where we have regressed, we need to ensure that we decisively deal with those areas so that it doesn't undermine our overall quest to finally end load shedding."
