eShowe child removed from mother’s care amid abuse claims

The Department of Social Development in KZN has removed a child from her mother's care in Mandeni as officials investigate allegations of sexual assault.

The department's Mhlabunzima Memela says the eight-year-old suffered abuse, allegedly at the hands of her mother's partner in eShowe.
He says the woman is also accused of trafficking her daughter, in the shocking case which sparked outrage on social media.
Memela says the girl has been taken to a place of safety.
"KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC, Mrs Nonhlanhla Khoza, has dispatched a team of social service officials, including senior social workers, to assist an eight-year-old girl reportedly victimised by adult men who sexually abuse her on a daily basis.
"MEC Khoza expressed serious concern that the heartless men destroyed the child’s future. She said the preliminary report showed that the child was damaged and needed extra intervention to help her be a child again."
