Enyobeni parents angry as wait for test results continue

The grieving families say they're yet to receive feedback on the investigations into their children's deaths almost two months ago.

Last month, authorities said traces of methanol found in the victims were being probed. 

The children's parents held a media briefing in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday where they expressed their anger over the lack of communication from the government, saying they've been relying on news reports for updates.

 "They are undermining us,” one of the mothers told the media.

“I will make an example of myself, after hearing on the radio that the results are out today, I was shocked and asked myself how can we hear on the radio about the availability of the results of our own children. We are worried because it looks like the authorities don't know how sensitive and personal this issue is.”

She says they want the government to brief all of them on what investigators know.

“We feel like we need to be given the results at the same time so that we can be there to comfort each other. We were promised psychological support but up until today, nothing has happened. 

“At least now after the funeral and yesterday's meeting we are here for each other as parents because we feel like we have no one to comfort us.”
