Emergency repairs to fix leak on pipe in Ilembe
Updated | By Natarah Nadesan
Emergency repairs
begun on Monday morning to fix a major leak on a pipeline that carries drinking
water from Mandini to Groutville.
Umgeni Water says 19 areas in the Ilembe District, including Kwadukuza and its CBD, will be without water for around 12 hours today.
Spokesperson Shami Harichunder says they had to shut the pipeline down at 6am.
"We expect the work to last about 12 hours, meaning it will be completed by six on Tuesday evening. In this time 19 areas supplied through this pipeline will not be able to receive water.”
KZN's coastal areas, especially those north of Durban, are reeling from another storm-related disaster this past weekend.

It's impacted the delivery of basic services in some places.
"Please be reminded that this is emergency work it has to be undertaken because the pipeline continues to leak it causes a huge risk to personal safety of the community living around that infrastructure,” says Harichunder.
“We will do our best to make sure the work is completed before 12 hours.”
