Electricity tariff hike on the cards for 2019
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Electricity tariffs are likely to increase next year.
This after the National Energy Regulator of SA agreed to Eskom clawing back some R32-billion over the next four years.
As a result, the power utility is applying for permission to charge more to keep the lights on. Eskom spokesperson, Khulu Phasiwe says they have already met with NERSA and other relevant stakeholders.
"Eskom has already met with the National Treasury, we have sat with the National Treasury. We have also met with Salga - which is representing the municipality.
"Even though those institutions know the figure, they are not allowed to make that information public - we will wait for the regulator, Nersa to make that information public and that will happen soon as far as we know," he said.
