"We are interacting with Eskom. We have noted the pronouncements that they made yesterday. Given those pronouncements, we are going to a second tier contingency plan to ensure counting is not disrupted if there isn't every supply," he said.

He was speaking after 48 political parties signed a pledge today, to uphold the electoral code of conduct.

The signing ceremony took place in Midrand.

The BLF's Andile Mngxitama had a few words to say as he signed the pledge.

"We will abide by the code but tret us with fairness. If you don't, we are going to have problems. If you don't allow us to go to Parliament - we will do it our way. President, we are in the dark. Let's keep the lights on, bring Brian Molefe back."

The DA's Mmusi Maimane signed on behalf of the DA.

"We can build one South Africa for all - a South Africa that will put a job in every home, that will ensure that our police are honest and professional, that we root out corruption from the system, deliver basic services and ensure that our borders are secure."

The EFF's Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi emphasised political tolerance.

"We reaffirm our commitment to the political tolerance. I must emphasise that - political tolerance is very important during this juncture. We shall also warn those who took our posters as the EFF that it must be stopped."
