Electrical failure blamed for water outage in Durban North

Some Durban North areas have been left without water due to an electrical failure at the Virginia Reservoir.

Durban residents are fuming about a water outage that affected large parts of the city related to an eThekwini municipality labour dispute that has disrupted services.

Ward 35 councillor Nicole Bollman says the levels at the water tower are dropping.

"The water tow allows for pressure, sufficient enough to go out to areas and areas that may be a little higher.

"This morning, we woke up to some parts of the area without any water and, upon inquiring, was advised there had been one of the electricity phases had gone down."

Areas affected are Park Hill, Blackburn Road, Umhlanga Rocks Drive, parts of Glen Anil, Glenhills, Virginia and Glenashley.

She says the matter has been escalated to Durban Electricity.

Newswatch has contacted eThekwini Municipality for comment.
