Elderly man killed in Athlone house fire
An elderly man has died following a house fire that broke in the Athlone area of Durban North.
According to Netcare 911's Shawn Herbst when emergency services arrived the house was well alight with smoke billowing from the roof and windows.
"A Marshall Security Armed Response Officer and Special Operations Team member entered the house and managed to rescue an adult female who had suffered smoke inhalation.
"The eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services managed to douse the flames, however most of the house had been destroyed in the inferno.
"A post-fire assessment had been done by the Durban Metropolitan Police Search and Rescue Unit and sadly an elderly male was sadly found deceased."
